It is a Formica rufa group, hopefully I'll have the species later on (or be proven wrong and save me a lot of time searching).

Next clue for MrILTA and any other brave guessers...Compare the petioles of Formica species.

I received the specimens on loan, mentioned above by Prof. Buschinger, in today's mail. The specimens, labelled with the unpublished (and thus unavailable) name "Polyergus nigricans" are a bit shinier...
